Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s largest and most accessible wildlife reserves, located in the southeastern part of the country. It’s part of the larger Selous Game Reserve ecosystem, which is one of the most significant wildlife areas in Africa. Mikumi is about 280 kilometers (around 170 miles) from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
Diverse Wildlife: Mikumi is home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and numerous antelope species like impalas and greater kudu. It’s also a great place for birdwatching, with over 400 species recorded.
Landscape: The park has a variety of habitats, including savannah, miombo woodlands, and wetlands. The terrain is mostly flat, with some hilly areas, offering great opportunities for scenic views and photography. One of the park’s notable features is the floodplains of the Mkata River, which attract many animals.
